New arrangements for "teacher" training
From September 2007, the Government has introduced the following reforms:

  • The term "teacher" will be used to recognise the professional status of all workplace trainers and tutors
  • All new teachers will be required to hold a threshold licence to teach: Award in Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector (PTLLS)
  • All teachers will work towards Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (ATLS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS)
  • All teachers will be required to fulfil at least 30 hours of continuing professional devcelopment (CPD) each year (reduced amount for part time staff)
